Lindsay Lohan was only on her way toward melting down. Dubstep was musical genius, Burial had just started leaking out of London into the rest of the world. The country was looking forward to the end of the Bush administration, wondering, fearing, who could replace it and make things yet worse. Mustaches and monocles had not yet found their way out of their weird, pervy niches.

I wanna say it was good times, but, really, it wasn't all that different from now.
